Five Simple Tips to Change Your Mindset for the Better

Jun 12, 2022

It’s so, so easy to get sucked into the vortex of frustration and overwhelm. We let our inner critic run the show, and that leaves us feeling terrible. Don’t. Here are 5 simple tips to change your mindset for the better. You’ll be happier and on the path to ditch stress, feel great, and love life!

Just like small changes in one direction at point A can lead to bigger changes at point B, simple changes in your daily thinking and teensy changes in your routine can lead to enormous changes down the road.

A change in the way you think leads to a change in the way you feel, which leads to a change in the way you act, which leads to a change in the way you ARE. It’s true! Pinky promise!

Here goes:

1. Happiness is an inside job.

You can find negative in any situation—-but you can also find nuggets of happiness in any situation.

It’s wayyy too easy to focus on the negatives and get sucked into a cycle of overwhelm, frustration, guilt and shame. Instead, choose to focus on the bright spots in your day and see the positives in every situation. I usually work on having my clients remember one especially positive life event and focus on the feelings that came with that, then bottle up those feelings, and carry them in your heart. It really can help change the way you see the world!

Change your outlook; change your life!

2. Accept that you’ll mess up.

We all do! That’s just something that comes with the territory of life and motherhood.

Perfect people and their perfect kids just live in the fantasy world of our imaginations! NO ONE IS PERFECT! You’ll eat or drink something that you feel is not on the “good” list. We all do! The secret is to acknowledge it, and move on.

Don’t demand perfection from yourself or from your partner and kids. Mess up; learn from your mistakes; apologize (if needed), and keep moving forward!

3. Comparisons will kill ya.

Yep. Step away from the comparison mirror, you know that one may mirror that lets you look through at other people’s lives and families and makes you feel totally inadequate!!! DON’T DO IT!

You don’t know what really goes in in that perfect person’s life; Instagram doesn’t usually show people at their worst or even normal. You’ll be much happier if you tell your inner critic to zip it when she compares you to someone else.

4. Trust in yourself.

You were created with everything it takes to be perfect in your own right. We are all created in the image and likeness of God, which means in our own way, we are creators and we bear a type of divinity. When you look in the mirror remember that, and trust that only YOU can create your personal reality. Appreciate how amazingly far you’ve come. Give yourself credit for what you’ve accomplished!

5. You get a do-over every single day.

Each new day brings with it a fresh start. Yay! Leave the past exactly where it belongs — in the rear view mirror. Live in the present and be thankful for each new day.

Make tiny changes and improvements every day/week/month. If you’re not up for working out, put your work out clothes out every day for a week. The next week, put your workout clothes on. The one after that, do something in your workout clothes for 5 minutes. Work your way up to bigger habits by fulfilling small ones.

When you feel down or frustrated, that’s OK. Feelings just are; they’re either good nor bad. Recognize the feeling, and allow it to flow through you rather than dwelling on it. Realize that you’re not perfect and that you’ll mess up. Trust in yourself, and don’t compare yourself to others. Choose to live in gratitude, confidence, and love!
